The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a significant initiative introduced by the Government of India in the 2024-25 budget. This program focuses on the installation of rooftop solar power plants, with a substantial investment exceeding ₹75,000 crore.
The aim is to supply solar energy to approximately 1 crore households, providing each household with 300 units of free electricity every month. This initiative represents a major step towards promoting renewable energy and enhancing energy access for the population.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, launched in February 2024, provides significant government subsidies for installing residential rooftop solar panels in India. The scheme offers a central subsidy of ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for additional kW, capped at ₹78,000 for 3 kW or higher systems, aimed at providing up to 300 units of free electricity monthly.

These systems, typically ranging from 20KW to over 1MW, utilize high-efficiency panels (e.g., monocrystalline, Bi-Facial) with a lifespan of 25+ years, providing a 4–6 year return on investment.
